慈悲あまねく慈愛深きアッラーの御名において。
Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
1. （起るべき）出来事が起る時，
When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls.
2. （誰も）その起るのを，嘘であるとしなくなる。
And there can be no denying of its befalling.
3. （或る者は）低く落され，（或る者は）高く挙げられよう。
It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt;
4. その時，大地は大揺れに揺れる。
When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake.
5. 山々は砕けて崩れ，
And the mountains will be powdered to dust.
6. 粉粉になって飛散する。
So that they will become floating dust particles.
7. その時あなたがたは，3つの組に分けられる。
And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups).
8. まず右手の仲間（がいる）。右手の仲間とは何であろう。
So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise).
9. また左手の仲間（がいる）。左手の仲間とは何であろう。
And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell).
10. （信仰の）先頭に立つ者は，（楽園においても）先頭に立ち，
And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise).
11. これらの者（先頭に立つ者）は，（アッラーの）側近にはべり，
These will be those nearest to Allah.
12. 至福の楽園の中に（住む）。
In the Gardens of delight (Paradise).
13. 昔からの者が多数で，
A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam).
14. 後世の者は僅かである。
And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations).
15. （かれらは錦の織物を）敷いた寝床の上に，
(They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones,
16. 向い合ってそれに寄り掛かる。
Reclining thereon, face to face.
17. 永遠の（若さを保つ）少年たちがかれらの間を巡り，
They will be served by immortal boys,
18. （手に手に）高坏や（輝く）水差し，汲立の飲物盃（を捧げる）。
With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine,
19. かれらは，それで後の障を残さず，泥酔することもない。
Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication.
20. また果実は，かれらの選ぶに任せ，
And fruit; that they may choose.
21. 種々の鳥の肉は，かれらの好みのまま。
And the flesh of fowls that they desire.
22. 大きい輝くまなざしの，美しい乙女は，
And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious),
23. 丁度秘蔵の真珠のよう。
Like unto preserved pearls.
24. （これらは）かれらの行いに対する報奨である。
A reward for what they used to do.
25. そこでは，無益な言葉や，罪作りな話も聞くことはない。
No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.).
26. 只「平安あれ，平安あれ。」と言う（のを耳にする）だけである。
But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace) !
27. 右手の仲間，右手の仲間とは何であろう。
And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand?
28. （かれらは）刺のないスィドラの木，
(They will be) among thornless lote-trees,
29. 累々と実るタルフ木（の中に住み），
Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another,
30. 長く伸びる木陰の，
In shade long-extended,
31. 絶え間なく流れる水の間で，
By water flowing constantly,
32. 豊かな果物が
And fruit in plenty,
33. 絶えることなく，禁じられることもなく（取り放題）。
Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off,
34. 高く上げられた（位階の）臥所に（着く）。
And on couches or thrones, raised high.
35. 本当にわれは，かれら（の配偶として乙女）を特別に創り，
Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation.
36. かの女らを（永遠に汚れない）処女にした。
And made them virgins.
37. 愛しい，同じ年配の者。
Loving (their husbands only), equal in age.
38. （これらは）右手の仲間のためである。
For those on the Right Hand.
39. 昔の者が大勢いるが，
A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam).
40. 後世の者も多い。
And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations).
41. 左手の仲間，かれらは何であろう。
And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand?
42. （かれらは）焼け焦がすような風と，煮え立つ湯の中，
In fierce hot wind and boiling water,
43. 黒煙の影に，
And shadow of black smoke,
44. 涼しくもなく，爽やかでもない（中にいる）。
(That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good,
45. かれらはそれ以前，裕福で（享楽に耽り）。
Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury,
46. 大罪を敢て犯していた。
And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.)
47. そして何時も言っていた。「わたしたちは死んでから，土と骨になり，本当に甦されるのでしょうか。
And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected?
48. わたしたちの古い祖先も（甦されるの）ですか。」
"And also our forefathers?"
49. 言ってやるがいい。「そうだとも，昔の者も後世の者も。
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times
50. 必ず一緒に召集されるのである。定められた日の，定められた時に。」
"All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day.
51. その時あなたがたは（どうであろう），迷って（真理を）虚偽であるとした者よ。
"Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)!
52. 必ずあなたがたはザックームの木（の実）を食べ，
"You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum.
53. それで腹は一杯。
"Then you will fill your bellies therewith,
54. その上煮え立つ湯を飲む，
"And drink boiling water on top of it,
55. 喉が乾いたラクダが飲むように。
"So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!"
56. これが審きの日の，かれらの持て成しである。
That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense!
57. われはあなたがたを創った。あなたがたはどうして真実を信じようとしないのか。
We created you, then why do you believe not?
58. あなたがたは，あなたがたの射出するもの（精液）に就いて考えたか。
Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit.
59. それを創ったのはあなたがたなのか，それともわれがその創造者であるのか。
Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator?
60. われは，あなたがたに死（期）を定めた。われは，（決して）出し抜かれたりすることはない。
We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable,
61. だがわれは同類の者で取り替え（世代の交替），またはあなたがたが知らない（他の形態の）ものに，あなたがたを創（り変え）る。
To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not.
62. あなたがたは，確かに最初の創造を知っている。それでも何故留意しないのか。
And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed?
63. あなたがたは，あなたがたが耕す（畑の）ことを考えたか。
Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground.
64. あなたがたがそれ（植物）を育てるのか，それともわれが育てるのか。
Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower?
65. もしわれが欲するならば，それを枯れた屑にしてしまう。あなたがたは驚愕して止まない。
Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment).
66. （そして言うであろう。）「わたしたちは本当に負債を課せられた。
(Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219]
67. いや，わたしたちは（労働の成果を）取り上げられた。」
"Nay, but we are deprived!"
68. またあなたがたの飲む水に就いて考えたか。
Tell Me! The water that you drink.
69. あなたがたが雲から（雨を）降らせるのか，それともわれが降らせるのか。
Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down?
70. われがもし欲するならば，それを塩辛くすることが出来る。あなたがたはどうして感謝しないのか。
If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)?
71. あなたがたは，灯火に就いて考えたか。
Tell Me! The fire which you kindle,
72. その（燃やす）木を，あなたがたが創ったのか，それともわれが創ったのか。
Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower?
73. われはそれを教訓とし，また荒野の住民の便利のために創った。
We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world).
74. だから偉大であられるあなたの主の御名を讃えなさい。
Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great.
75. わたしは，沈んでゆく星にかけて誓う。
So I swear by Mawaqi (setting or the mansions, etc.) of the stars (they traverse).
76. それは本当に偉大な誓いである。もしあなたがたに分るならば，
And verily, that is indeed a great oath, if you but know.
77. 本当にこれは，非常に尊いクルアーンである。
That (this) is indeed an honourable recital (the Noble Quran).
78. （それは）秘蔵の啓典の中に（書かれてあり），
In a Book well-guarded (with Allah in the heaven i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz).
79. 清められた者の外，触れることが出来ない。
Which (that Book with Allah) none can touch but the purified (i.e. the angels).
80. 万有の主からの啓示である。
A Revelation (this Quran) from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
81. これは，あなたがたが軽んじるような教えであろうか。
Is it such a talk (this Quran) that you (disbelievers) deny?
82. またあなたがたは（それを）虚偽であると申し立て，あなたがたの暮らしを立てるのか。
And instead (of thanking Allah) for the provision He gives you, on the contrary, you deny Him (by disbelief)!
83. それならあなたがたは，（臨終の人の魂が）喉もとを塞ぐ時，
Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat?
84. （座って只）見守るばかりなのか。
And you at the moment are looking on,
85. われはあなたがたよりもかれに近いのである。だがあなたがたには見えはしない。
But We (i.e. Our angels who take the soul) are nearer to him than you, but you see not, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol.27, Page 209]
86. あなたがたがもし（来世の）報いを除外されているというのなら，あなたがたは何故，
Then why do you not, if you are exempt from the reckoning and recompense (punishment, etc.)
87. その（魂）を（体内に）呼び戻さないのか。もしあなたがたが，真実（を語っているの）ならば。
Bring back the soul (to its body), if you are truthful?
88. もしかれが，（アッラー）に近付けられた者であるなら，
Then, if he (the dying person) be of the Muqarrabun (those brought near to Allah),
89. （かれに対する報奨は）安心と満悦，そして至福の楽園である。
(There is for him) rest and provision, and a Garden of delights (Paradise).
90. もしかれが，右手の仲間であるならば，
And if he (the dying person) be of those on the Right Hand,
91. 「あなたに平安あれ。」と右手の仲間から（挨拶される）。
Then there is safety and peace (from the Punishment of Allah) for (you as you are from) those on the Right Hand.
92. もしかれが，嘘付きで，迷った者であるならば，
But if he (the dying person) be of the denying (of the Resurrection), the erring (away from the Right Path of Islamic Monotheism),
93. 煮え立つ湯の待遇を受け，
Then for him is entertainment with boiling water.
94. 獄火で焼かれよう。
And burning in Hell-fire.
95. 本当にこれは，揺ぎのない確かな真理である。
Verily, this! This is an absolute Truth with certainty.
96. だから偉大であられるあなたの主の御名を讃えなさい。
So glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great.
