慈悲あまねく慈愛深きアッラーの御名において。
In the Name of Allâh, the Most
Beneficent, the Most Merciful.
1. アリフ・ラーム・ミーム・サード。
AlifLamMimSad. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings].
2. （これは）あなたに下した啓典である。あなたはそれで，もう意気そそうしてはならない。あなたが信者たちに訓戒し，警告するため（に下されたもの）である。
(This is the) Book (the Quran) sent down unto you (O Muhammad SAW), so let not your breast be narrow therefrom, that you warn thereby, and a reminder unto the believers.
3. （人びとよ）主からあなたがたに下されたものに従い，かれ以外の保護者に従ってはならない。だがあなたがたの（中），教訓に留意する者は少ない。
[Say (O Muhammad SAW) to these idolaters (pagan Arabs) of your folk:] Follow what has been sent down unto you from your Lord (the Quran and Prophet Muhammad's Sunnah), and follow not any Auliya' (protectors and helpers, etc. who order you to associate partners in worship with Allah), besides Him (Allah). Little do you remember!
4. われは如何に多くの町を滅したことであろうか，わが力は夜の間に，またかれらの昼の休みに（突然）襲いかかる。
And a great number of towns (their population) We destroyed (for their crimes). Our torment came upon them (suddenly) by night or while they were sleeping for their afternoon rest.
5. わが懲罰がかれらに下った時，かれらは只「わたしたちは，本当に不義を行っていた。」と言うだけであった。
No cry did they utter when Our Torment came upon them but this: "Verily, we were Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers, etc.)".
6. それからわれは，使徒が遣された者たちを尋問し，また使徒たちをも尋問する。
Then surely, We shall question those (people) to whom it (the Book) was sent and verily, We shall question the Messengers.
7. それからわれは，（確かな）知識に基づいてかれらに告げるであろう。「われは決して不在（の時および所）はないのである。」
Then surely, We shall narrate unto them (their whole story) with knowledge, and indeed We were not absent.
8. 量はその日，真正である。（善行の）目方の重い者は，成功する者である。
And the weighing on that day (Day of Resurrection) will be the true (weighing). So as for those whose scale (of good deeds) will be heavy, they will be the successful (by entering Paradise).
9. また目方の軽い者は，わが印を軽んじたため自分を損う者である。
And as for those whose scale will be light, they are those who will lose their ownselves (by entering Hell) because they denied and rejected Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).
10. われは地上において，あなたがた（人間）に力をもたせ，またあなたがたのため，そこに生計の道を授けた。だがあなたがたの（中），感謝する者は僅かである。
And surely, We gave you authority on the earth and appointed for you therein provisions (for your life). Little thanks do you give.
11. われはあなたがたを創り，形を授け，それからわれは，天使たちに向かって，「アーダムにサジダしなさい。」と告げた。それで外のものは皆サジダしたが，悪魔〔イブリース〕はサジダした者の中に加わらなかった。
And surely, We created you (your father Adam) and then gave you shape (the noble shape of a human being), then We told the angels, "Prostrate to Adam", and they prostrated, except Iblis (Satan), he refused to be of those who prostrate.
12. かれは仰せられた。「われがあなたに命じた時，どうしてサジダしなかったのか。」悪魔は答えた。「わたしはかれよりも優れております。あなたはわたしを火から御創りになりましたが，かれを泥で創られました。」
(Allah) said: "What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not prostrate, when I commanded you?" Iblis said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay."
13. かれは仰せられた。「ここから落ちてしまえ。あなたはここで高慢であるべきではない。立ち去れ。あなたは本当に卑しむべき者である。」
(Allah) said: "(O Iblis) get down from this (Paradise), it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out, for you are of those humiliated and disgraced."
14. 悪魔は答えた。「かれらが甦らされる日まで，わたしを猶予して下さい。」
(Iblis) said: "Allow me respite till the Day they are raised up (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)."
15. かれは，「あなたは猶予されよう。」と仰せられた。
(Allah) said: "You are of those allowed respite."
16. 悪魔は答えた。「あなたがわたしを惑わされたので，わたしはあなたの正しい道の上で，人々を待ち伏せるであろう。
(Iblis) said: "Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path.
17. そしてわたしは，かれらを前から，後ろから，右てからも左てからも襲いましょう。あなたはかれらの多くの者が，（御慈悲に対し）感謝しないことが御分かりになるでしょう。」
Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You)."
18. かれは仰せられた。「恥辱を受けて追われて，ここから出て行け。凡そかれらの中あなたに従う者があれば，われはあなたがたの人々で地獄を満たすであろう。」
(Allah) said (to Iblis) "Get out from this (Paradise) disgraced and expelled. Whoever of them (mankind) will follow you, then surely I will fill Hell with you all."
19. （それからアーダムに仰せられた。） 「アーダムよ，あなたとあなたの妻は楽園に住み，随所であなたがた（の好むものを）食べなさい。只この樹に近付いて不義を犯してはならない。」
"And O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in Paradise, and eat thereof as you both wish, but approach not this tree otherwise you both will be of the Zalimun (unjust and wrongdoers)."
20. その後悪魔〔シャイターン〕はかれらに囁き，今まで見えなかった恥かしいところを，あらわに示そうとして言った。「あなたがたの主が，この樹に近付くことを禁じられたのは，あなたがたが天使になり，または永遠に生きる（のを恐れられた）からである。」
Then Shaitan (Satan) whispered suggestions to them both in order to uncover that which was hidden from them of their private parts (before); he said: "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save you should become angels or become of the immortals."
21. そしてかれは，かれら両人に誓っ（て言っ）た。「わたしはあなたがたの心からの忠告者である。」
And he [Shaitan (Satan)] swore by Allah to them both (saying): "Verily, I am one of the sincere wellwishers for you both."
22. こうしてかれは両人を欺いて堕落させた。かれらがこの木を味わうと，その恥ずかしい処があらわになり，2人は園の木の葉でその身を覆い始めた。その時主は，かれらに呼びかけて仰せられた。「われはこの木をあなたがたに禁じたではないか。また悪魔〔シャイターン〕は，あなたがたの公然の敵であると告げたではないか。」
So he misled them with deception. Then when they tasted of the tree, that which was hidden from them of their shame (private parts) became manifest to them and they began to stick together the leaves of Paradise over themselves (in order to cover their shame). And their Lord called out to them (saying): "Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you: Verily, Shaitan (Satan) is an open enemy unto you?"
23. かれら両人は言った。「主よ，わたしたちは誤ちを犯しました。もしあなたの御赦しと慈悲を御受け出来ないならば，わたしたちは必ず失敗者の仲間になってしまいます。」
They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers."
24. かれは仰せられた。「あなたがたは落ちて行け，あなたがたは互いに敵となるであろう。あなたがたには地上に住まいと，一定の期間の恵みがあろう。」
(Allah) said: "Get down, one of you an enemy to the other [i.e. Adam, Hawwa (Eve), and Shaitan (Satan), etc.]. On earth will be a dwellingplace for you and an enjoyment, - for a time."
25. かれは仰せられた。「そこであなたがたは生活し，死に，またそこから（復活の時に）引き出されるであろう。」
He said: "Therein you shall live, and therein you shall die, and from it you shall be brought out (i.e.resurrected)."
26. アーダムの子孫よ，われは，恥ずかしいところを覆い，また飾るために衣装をあなたがたに授けた。だが篤信という衣装こそ最も優れたものである。これはアッラーの印である。恐らくかれらは諭されるであろう。
O Children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover yourselves (screen your private parts, etc.) and as an adornment, and the raiment of righteousness, that is better. Such are among the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, that they may remember (i.e. leave falsehood and follow truth).
27. アーダムの子孫よ，あなたがたは悪魔に惑わされてはならない。かれが昔，あなたがたの祖先に，その恥ずかしいところを見せるため，かれら2人の衣を奪い，楽園から追われたように。かれ（悪魔）とかれの一味は，あなたがたの見えない所からあなたがたを見ている。本当にわれは悪魔を不信心な者たちの友とした。
O Children of Adam! Let not Shaitan (Satan) deceive you, as he got your parents [Adam and Hawwa (Eve)] out of Paradise, stripping them of their raiments, to show them their private parts. Verily, he and Qabiluhu (his soldiers from the jinns or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them. Verily, We made the Shayatin (devils) Auliya' (protectors and helpers) for those who believe not.
28. かれらは淫らなことをする時，「わたしたちは祖先が行うのを見た。またアッラーがこれをわたしたちに命じられた。」と言う。言ってやるがいい。「アッラーは決して淫らなことを命じられない。あなたがたはアッラーに就いて，知りもしないことをロにするのか。」
And when they commit a Fahisha (evil deed, going round the Ka'bah in naked state, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.), they say: "We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has commanded us of it." Say: "Nay, Allah never commands of Fahisha. Do you say of Allah what you know not?
29. 言ってやるがいい。「わたしの主は，正義を命じられる。それであなたがたは全霊をうち込み，何処のマスジドでも，かれに信心の誠を尽くして祈りなさい。最初あなたがたを創られたように，あなたがたは（かれに）帰るのである。
Say (O Muhammad SAW): My Lord has commanded justice and (said) that you should face Him only (i.e. worship none but Allah and face the Qiblah, i.e. the Ka'bah at Makkah during prayers) in each and every place of worship, in prayers (and not to face other false deities and idols), and invoke Him only making your religion sincere to Him by not joining in worship any partner to Him and with the intention that you are doing your deeds for Allah's sake only. As He brought you (into being) in the beginning, so shall you be brought into being (on the Day of Resurrection) [in two groups, one as a blessed one (believers), and the other as a wretched one (disbelievers)].
30. かれはある一団の者を導かれ，またある一団の者には迷いを正当となされる。かれらはアッラーを差し置いて悪魔を保護者となし，正しい導きにあずかれると考えている。」
A group He has guided, and a group deserved to be in error; (because) surely they took the Shayatin (devils) as Auliya' (protectors and helpers) instead of Allah, and consider that they are guided.
31. アーダムの子孫よ，何処のマスジドでも清潔な衣服を体につけなさい。そして食べたり飲んだりしなさい。だが度を越してはならない。本当にかれは浪費する者を御好みにならない。
O Children of Adam! Take your adornment (by wearing your clean clothes), while praying and going round (the Tawaf of ) the Ka'bah, and eat and drink but waste not by extravagance, certainly He (Allah) likes not Al-Musrifun (those who waste by extravagance).
32. 言ってやるがいい。「アッラーがしもべたちに与えられた，かれからの（賜物）や，食料として（与えられた）清浄なものを，誰が禁じたのか。」言ってやるがいい。「これらのものは，現世の信仰する者たちのためのものであり，特に審判の日には完全に信者の専有するものとなる。」われはこのように印を，理解ある人々に解明する。
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Who has forbidden the adoration with clothes given by Allah, which He has produced for his slaves, and At-Taiyibat [all kinds of Halal (lawful) things] of food?" Say: "They are, in the life of this world, for those who believe, (and) exclusively for them (believers) on the Day of Resurrection (the disbelievers will not share them)." Thus We explain the Ayat (Islamic laws) in detail for people who have knowledge.
33. 言ってやるがいい。「本当にわたしの主が禁じられたことは，あからさまな，また隠れた淫らな行いや罪，真理や道義に外れた迫害，またアッラーが何の権威をも授けられないものを崇拝すること。またアッラーに就いて，あなたがたが知らないことを語ることである。」
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(But) the things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are AlFawahish (great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, sins (of all kinds), unrighteous oppression, joining partners (in worship) with Allah for which He has given no authority, and saying things about Allah of which you have no knowledge."
34. それぞれの民には，一定の期限がある。だからその期限がやって来れば，一刻も遅らすことも出来ず，早めることも出来ない。
And every nation has its appointed term; when their term is reached, neither can they delay it nor can they advance it an hour (or a moment).
35. アーダムの子孫よ，あなたがたの間から使徒がやって来て，わが印をあなたがたに語る時，主を畏れて身を修める者には，恐れもなく憂いもないであろう。
O Children of Adam! If there come to you Messengers from amongst you, reciting to you, My Verses, then whosoever becomes pious and righteous, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
36. しかしわが印を偽りであるとする高慢な者は，業火の住人として，その中に永遠に住むであろう。
But those who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and treat them with arrogance, they are the dwellers of the (Hell) Fire, they will abide therein forever.
37. 凡そアッラーに就いて偽りを捏造し，またその印を拒否することより甚しい不義があろうか。それらの者には（主の）啓典に，（定められている）かれらの分け前が，到来するであろう。わが使徒（天使）がかれらを訪れて魂をとり上げる時，かれら（天使）は言う。「アッラーを差し置いて，あなたがたが祈っていたものは何処にいるのか。」かれらは言うであろう。「かれらは，わたしたちから逸れました。」かれらは自分で，本当に不信心であったことを立証する。
Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or rejects His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.)? For such their appointed portion (good things of this worldly life and their period of stay therein) will reach them from the Book (of Decrees) until, when Our Messengers (the angel of death and his assistants) come to them to take their souls, they (the angels) will say: "Where are those whom you used to invoke and worship besides Allah," they will reply, "They have vanished and deserted us." And they will bear witness against themselves, that they were disbelievers.
38. かれは仰せられた。「あなたがたは以前に行った，ジンと人間の一団と共に火獄に入れ。」そして一団が火獄に入る度に，必ず（先に行った）仲間の一団を呪う。全部の者が，次々にその中に入ると，後の一団は最初の一団をさして言う。「主よ，わたしたちを迷わせたのは，これらの者です。だから2倍の火獄の刑罰を与えて下さい。」かれは仰せられよう。「誰もみな2倍（の刑罰が）与えられよう。だがあなたがたはそれを知らない。」
(Allah) will say: "Enter you in the company of nations who passed away before you, of men and jinns, into the Fire." Every time a new nation enters, it curses its sister nation (that went before), until they will be gathered all together in the Fire. The last of them will say to the first of them: "Our Lord! These misled us, so give them a double torment of the Fire." He will say: "For each one there is double (torment), but you know not."
39. また前の一団は，後の一団に向かって言うであろう。「あなたがたは，何もわたしたちに優るところはないのです。それであなたがたが行ったことに対し，懲罰を味わいなさい。」
The first of them will say to the last of them: "You were not better than us, so taste the torment for what you used to earn."
40. わが印を偽りであるとし，それに対し高慢であった者たちには，天の間は決して開かれないであろう。またラクダが針の穴を通るまで，かれらは楽園に入れないであろう。このようにわれは罪ある者に報いる。
Verily, those who belie Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and treat them with arrogance, for them the gates of heaven will not be opened, and they will not enter Paradise until the camel goes through the eye of the needle (which is impossible). Thus do We recompense the Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.).
41. かれらには，臥床として地獄があり，その上は（層また層で）覆われよう。われはこのように不義なる者に報いる。
Theirs will be a bed of Hell (Fire), and over them coverings (of Hell-fire). Thus do We recompense the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers, etc.).
42. だが信仰して善い行いに励む者は，われは誰にも，能力以上のものを負わせない。かれらは楽園の住人である。その中に永遠に住むのである。
But those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and worked righteousness - We tax not any person beyond his scope, such are the dwellers of Paradise. They will abide therein.
43. われはかれらの心の中の怨恨を除き，かれらの足元に川を流す。かれらは言うであろう。「わたしたちをこの（幸福）に御導き下された，アッラーを讃える。もしアッラーの御導きがなかったならば，わたしたちは決して（正しく）導かれなかったでありましょう。主の使徒たちは，確かに真理を伝えました。」（声があり）かれらは呼びかけられる。「これが楽園である。あなたがたは（正しい）行いのために，ここの居住者となれたのである。」
And We shall remove from their breasts any (mutual) hatred or sense of injury (which they had, if at all, in the life of this world); rivers flowing under them, and they will say: "All the praises and thanks be to Allah, Who has guided us to this, never could we have found guidance, were it not that Allah had guided us! Indeed, the Messengers of our Lord did come with the truth." And it will be cried out to them: "This is the Paradise which you have inherited for what you used to do."
44. 楽園の仲間は火獄の仲間に向かって叫ぶであろう。「わたしたちは主の約束が真実であることが分った。あなたがたも主の約束が真実であることが分ったか。」かれらは「はい」と答えるであろう。その時1人の告知人が，両者の間で叫ぶであろう。「アッラーの御怒りは，不義の徒の上に下るのだ。
And the dwellers of Paradise will call out to the dwellers of the Fire (saying): "We have indeed found true what our Lord had promised us; have you also found true, what your Lord promised (warnings, etc.)?" They shall say: "Yes." Then a crier will proclaim between them: "The Curse of Allah is on the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers, etc.),"
45. これらの者はアッラーの道から（人びとを）背かせ，また歪めようとした者であり来世を信じない者たちであった。」
Those who hindered (men) from the Path of Allah, and would seek to make it crooked, and they were disbelievers in the Hereafter.
46. 両者の間には仕切りの壁があり，高い壁の上には印によって，凡ての者を見分ける人びとがいて，かれらは楽園に行く人を呼んで（言う）。「あなたがたに平安あれ。」かれらは望んでいるのだが，そこに入ることは出来ない。
And between them will be a barrier screen and on AlA'raf (a wall with elevated places) will be men (whose good and evil deeds would be equal in scale), who would recognise all (of the Paradise and Hell people), by their marks (the dwellers of Paradise by their white faces and the dwellers of Hell by their black faces), they will call out to the dwellers of Paradise, "Salamun 'Alaikum" (peace be on you), and at that time they (men on Al-A'raf) will not yet have entered it (Paradise), but they will hope to enter (it) with certainty.
47. 次に目を火獄の住人の方に向けるとかれらは，「主よ，わたしたちを不義の人びとと一緒にしないで下さい。」と言うであろう。
And when their eyes will be turned towards the dwellers of the Fire, they will say: "Our Lord! Place us not with the people who are Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers)."
48. 高い壁の上にいる人びとは，その印によって見分けた人びとに向かって呼びかけて，言う。「あなたがたは（財を）積み，大いに自慢していたが何の役にも立たなかった。
And the men on AlA'raf (the wall) will call unto the men whom they would recognise by their marks, saying: "Of what benefit to you were your great numbers (and hoards of wealth), and your arrogance against Faith?"
49. これらの人々は，アッラーがかれらには慈悲を施さないであろうと，あなたがたが断言した人びとではないか。（これらの人々に就いては）さあ楽園に入りなさい。あなたがたには，恐れもなく憂いもないであろう。」（と言われるであろう）。
Are they those, of whom you swore that Allah would never show them mercy. (Behold! It has been said to them): "Enter Paradise, no fear shall be on you, nor shall you grieve."
50. 火獄の仲間は楽園の仲間を呼んで（言う）。「わたしたちに水を注いでくれ。またはアッラーが，あなたがたに与えられたものを恵んでくれ。」かれらは（答えて）言う。「アッラーは，そのどちらをも，不信者には禁じられる。」
And the dwellers of the Fire will call to the dwellers of Paradise: "Pour on us some water or anything that Allah has provided you with." They will say: "Both (water and provision) Allah has forbidden to the disbelievers."
51. かれらは自分の宗教を遊びや戯れと心得，またこの世の生活に欺かれた者たちである。それでかれらがこの日の会見を忘れ，またわが印を拒否していたように，今日われはかれらを忘れるであろう。
"Who took their religion as an amusement and play, and the life of the world deceived them." So this Day We shall forget them as they forgot their meeting of this Day, and as they used to reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).
52. われはまさに啓典をかれらに下し，知識によって詳しく述べた。これは信じる人びとへの導きであり，慈悲である。
Certainly, We have brought to them a Book (the Quran) which We have explained in detail with knowledge, - a guidance and a mercy to a people who believe.
53. かれら（マッカの人びと）は，その解明を待つ以外にはない。その解明が行われる日になって，先にこれを軽視していた者は言うであろう。「主の使徒たちは，確かに真理を伝えたのだ。昔かれらがわたしたちのために執り成したように，執り成す者はないのか。それともわたしたちは（地上の生活に）返されて，わたしたちがしなかった行いをすることが出来ないのか。」実際に，かれらは自分の魂を滅ぼし，勝手に造りあげていたものたちはかれらから姿を消してしまった。
Await they just for the final fulfillment of the event? On the Day the event is finally fulfilled (i.e. the Day of Resurrection), those who neglected it before will say: "Verily, the Messengers of our Lord did come with the truth, now are there any intercessors for us that they might intercede on our behalf? Or could we be sent back (to the first life of the world) so that we might do (good) deeds other than those (evil) deeds which we used to do?" Verily, they have lost their ownselves (i.e. destroyed themselves) and that which they used to fabricate (invoking and worshipping others besides Allah) has gone away from them.
54. 本当にあなたがたの主はアッラーであられる。かれは6日で天と地を創り，それから玉座に座しておられる。かれは昼の上に夜を覆わせ，夜に昼を慌ただしく相継がしめなされ，また太陽，月，群星を，命に服させられる。ああ，かれこそは創造し統御される御方ではないか。万有の主アッラーに祝福あれ。
Indeed your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in Six Days, and then He Istawa (rose over) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty). He brings the night as a cover over the day, seeking it rapidly, and (He created) the sun, the moon, the stars subjected to His Command. Surely, His is the Creation and Commandment. Blessed be Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!
55. 謙虚にまた目立たない隠れたところで，あなたがたの主に祈れ。かれは教えに背く者を御好みになられない。
Invoke your Lord with humility and in secret. He likes not the aggressors.
56. 秩序が定められた後，地上で悪を行ってはならない。恐れと熱情をもってかれに祈れ。本当にアッラーの慈悲は，（常に）善行をなす者の近くにある。
And do not do mischief on the earth, after it has been set in order, and invoke Him with fear and hope; Surely, Allah's Mercy is (ever) near unto the gooddoers.
57. かれこそは，慈悲に先んじて吉報を齎す風を送られる御方である。それが（雨を）含んだ重い雲を運ベば，われはそれを死んでいる地に送って雨を降らせ，これによって各種の果実を生産させる。われはこのように死者を甦らせる。恐らくあなたがたは悟るであろう。
And it is He Who sends the winds as heralds of glad tidings, going before His Mercy (rain). Till when they have carried a heavyladen cloud, We drive it to a land that is dead, then We cause water (rain) to descend thereon. Then We produce every kind of fruit therewith. Similarly, We shall raise up the dead, so that you may remember or take heed.
58. 良い上には，主の御許しによって，草木が茂る。悪い上には，貧弱なものの外生長しない。われはこのように感謝する者のために，繰り返し各種の印を解明している。
The vegetation of a good land comes forth (easily) by the Permission of its Lord, and that which is bad, brings forth nothing but a little with difficulty. Thus do We explain variously the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) for a people who give thanks.
59. 先にわれはヌーフをその民に遺わした。かれは言った。「わたしの人びとよ，アッラーに仕えなさい。かれの外に神はないのである。本当にわたしは，偉大な日の懲罰をあなたがたのために恐れる。」
Indeed, We sent Nuh (Noah) to his people and he said: "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. (La ilaha ill-Allah: none has the right to be worshipped but Allah). Certainly, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day!"
60. かれの民の長老たちは言った。「本当にわたしたちは，あなたが明らかに間違っていると思う。」
The leaders of his people said: "Verily, we see you in plain error."
61. かれは（答えて）言った。「人びとよ，わたしは間違うことはない。それどころか，わたしは万有の主の使徒である。
[Nuh (Noah)] said: "O my people! There is no error in me, but I am a Messenger from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!
62. わたしはあなたがたに，主の神託を宣べ伝え，また助言を呈する。わたしはあなたがたが知らないことを，アッラーから知るものである。
"I convey unto you the Messages of my Lord and give sincere advice to you. And I know from Allah what you know not.
63. あなたがたの中の1人を通じ，主の訓戒があなたがたにやって来たことを驚くのか。そしてあなたがたに警告し，主を畏れるようにし，あなたがたを慈悲に浴させるであろう。」
"Do you wonder that there has come to you a Reminder from your Lord through a man from amongst you, that he may warn you, so that you may fear Allah and that you may receive (His) Mercy?"
64. だがかれらはヌーフを拒否した。それでわれは，かれと方舟の中で一緒であったものたちを救い，わが印を偽りであるとした者たちを溺れさせた。本当にかれらは盲目の民であった。
But they belied him, so We saved him and those along with him in the ship, and We drowned those who belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). They were indeed a blind people.
65. （われは）またアードの民に，その同胞のフードを（遣わした)。かれは言った。「わたしの人びとよ，アッラーに仕えなさい。あなたがたには，かれ（アッラー）の外に神はないのである。あなたがたは主を畏れないのか。」
And to 'Ad (people, We sent) their brother Hud. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. (La ilaha ill-Allah: none has the right to be worshipped but Allah). Will you not fear (Allah)?"
66. かれの民の中不信心な長老たちは言った。「わたしたちは，実際あなたを愚かな者だと思う。またあなたは，本当の嘘つきだと考える。」
The leaders of those who disbelieved among his people said: "Verily, we see you in foolishness, and verily, we think you are one of the liars."
67. かれは言った。「人びとよ，わたしは愚か者ではない。それどころか，わたしは万有の主からの使徒である。
(Hud) said: "O my people! There is no foolishness in me, but (I am) a Messenger from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!
68. わたしは，あなたがたに主の神託を宣べ伝え，また誠実な信頼出来るあなたがたへの助言者である。
"I convey unto you the Messages of my Lord, and I am a trustworthy adviser (or wellwisher) for you.
69. あなたがたの中の1人を通じて警告するために，主の訓戒があなたがたにやって来たことを驚くのか。
主はあなたがたにヌーフの民の後継ぎをさせ，またあなたがたの体が強大にされたことを思いなさい。だからアッラーの恩恵を念じなさい。きっとあなたがたは成功するであろう。」
"Do you wonder that there has come to you a Reminder (and an advice) from your Lord through a man from amongst you that he may warn you? And remember that He made you successors after the people of Nuh (Noah), and increased you amply in stature. So remember the graces (bestowed upon you) from Allah, so that you may be successful."
70. かれらは言った。「あなたは，わたしたちがアッラーだけに仕え，わたしたちの祖先が仕えていたものを捨てさせるために来たのか。もしあなたが真実ならば，あなたが脅すものをわたしたちに齎せ。」
They said: "You have come to us that we should worship Allah Alone and forsake that which our fathers used to worship. So bring us that wherewith you have threatened us if you are of the truthful."
71. かれは言った。「あなたがたの主の懲罰と御怒りは，既にあなたがたに下っている。あなたがたと，あなたがたの祖先が命名した（偶像の）名に就いて，アッラーが何の権威をも授けられないものに就いて，あなたがたはわたしと論争するのか。それなら待て。本当にわたしも，あなたがたと共に待っている者である。」
(Hud) said: "Torment and wrath have already fallen on you from your Lord. Dispute you with me over names which you have named - you and your fathers, with no authority from Allah? Then wait, I am with you among those who wait."
72. それだからわれは慈悲をもって，かれと一緒にいる者たちを救い，わが印を拒否した者と信仰しなかった者たちを根絶してしまった。
So We saved him and those who were with him by a Mercy from Us, and We cut the roots of those who belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), and they were not believers.
73. （われは）また，サムードの民にその同胞サーリフを（遣わした）。かれは言った。「わたしの人びとよ，アッラーに仕えなさい。あなたがたには，かれの外に神はないのである。今主から証があなたがたに下った。このアッラーの雌ラクダが，あなたがたへの印である。それでこれをアッラーの大地に放牧して食べさせなさい。そしてあなたがたが痛ましい懲罰に遭わないよう，それに害を加えてはならない。
And to Thamud (people, We sent) their brother Salih (Saleh). He said: "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. (La ilaha ill-Allah: none has the right to be worshipped but Allah). Indeed there has come to you a clear sign (the miracle of the coming out of a huge shecamel from the midst of a rock) from your Lord. This shecamel of Allah is a sign unto you; so you leave her to graze in Allah's earth, and touch her not with harm, lest a painful torment should seize you.
74. またかれは，アードの民の後をあなたがたに継がせ，その地に安住させられた時のことを思いなさい。あなたがたは平地に官殿を設け，また（岩）山に家を彫りこんだ。だからアッラーの御恵みを心に銘じて，悪を慎み，地上を乱してはならない。」
"And remember when He made you successors after 'Ad (people) and gave you habitations in the land, you build for yourselves palaces in plains, and carve out homes in the mountains. So remember the graces (bestowed upon you) from Allah, and do not go about making mischief on the earth."
75. その民の中の高慢な長老たちは，力がないと思われていた信仰する者たちに言った。「あなたがたはサーリフが，主から遺わされたことを知っているのか。」かれらは（答えて）言った。「わたしたちは，かれが遺わされた者であることを本当に信します。」
The leaders of those who were arrogant among his people said to those who were counted weak - to such of them as believed: "Know you that Salih (Saleh) is one sent from his Lord." They said: "We indeed believe in that with which he has been sent."
76. 高慢な者たちは言った。「わたしたちは，あなたがたが信じるものを認めない。」
Those who were arrogant said: "Verily, we disbelieve in that which you believe in."
77. そこでかれらは，かの雌ラクダの膝の健を切って不具にし，（屠殺し）かれらの主の命令を倣慢無礼にも無視して，かれらは言った。「サーリフよ，もしあなたが（本当に）使徒であるならば，ふりかかってくると言っているものを，わたしたちに齎せ。」
So they killed the shecamel and insolently defied the Commandment of their Lord, and said: "O Salih (Saleh)! Bring about your threats if you are indeed one of the Messengers (of Allah)."
78. そこで大地震がかれらを襲い，翌朝かれらはその家の中に平伏していた。
So the earthquake seized them, and they lay (dead), prostrate in their homes.
79. それで（サーリフは）かれらから去って言った。「わたしの人びとよ，確かにわたしは主の御告げを宣ぺ伝え，またあなたがたに助言をした。だがあなたがたは誠実な助言者を喜ばない。」
Then he [Salih (Saleh)] turned from them, and said: "O my people! I have indeed conveyed to you the Message of my Lord, and have given you good advice but you like not good advisers."
80. また（われは）ルートを（遣わした），かれはその民に言った。「あなたがたは，あなたがた以前のどの世でも，誰も行わなかった淫らなことをするのか。
And (remember) Lout (Lot), when he said to his people: "Do you commit the worst sin such as none preceding you has committed in the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns)?
81. あなたがたは，情欲のため女でなくて男に赴く。いやあなたがたは，途方もない人びとである。」
"Verily, you practise your lusts on men instead of women. Nay, but you are a people transgressing beyond bounds (by committing great sins)."
82. かれの民は，只（互いに）こう言うだけであった。「かれらを，あなたがたの村から追い出せ。かれらは本当に清純ぶった人たちである。」
And the answer of his people was only that they said: "Drive them out of your town, these are indeed men who want to be pure (from sins)!"
83. こうしてわれは，かれ（ルート）の妻を除き，かれとその家族を救った。かの女は後の方になった遅れた者の仲間であった。
Then We saved him and his family, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind (in the torment).
84. われはかれらの上に、（瓦礫の）雨を降らせた。見なさい。罪に耽る者の最後がどんなものであったかを。
And We rained down on them a rain (of stones). Then see what was the end of the Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.).
85. （われは）また，マドヤンの民に，その同胞のシュアイブを（遣わした）。かれは言った。「わたしの人びとよ，アッラーに仕えなさい。あなたがたにはかれの外に神はないのである。今主からの証が，あなたがたに下ったのだ。だからきちんと寸法をとり，目方を量り，人を誤魔化してはならない。また秩序が定められた後，地上で悪を行ってはならない。もしあなたがたが信者であるならば，これはあなたがたのために最も良いことである。
And to (the people of) Madyan (Midian), (We sent) their brother Shu'aib. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. [La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)]." Verily, a clear proof (sign) from your Lord has come unto you; so give full measure and full weight and wrong not men in their things, and do not mischief on the earth after it has been set in order, that will be better for you, if you are believers.
86. あなたがたは，（旅人を脅かすために）どの路上でも待伏せしてはならない。また信じる者をアッラーの道から妨げたり，曲げ（ようとし）てはならない。またあなたがたは少数であったが，かれが（如何に）数多くなされたかを思いなさい。また悪を行ったものの最後がどうであったかを見なさい。
"And sit not on every road, threatening, and hindering from the Path of Allah those who believe in Him. and seeking to make it crooked. And remember when you were but few, and He multiplied you. And see what was the end of the Mufsidun (mischief-makers, corrupts, liars).
87. それからもしあなたがたの中に，わたしの遣わされた使命を信じる一団と，それを信じない一団とがある時は，アッラーがわたしたちの間を裁かれるまで待ちなさい。本当にかれは裁決に最も優れた御方であられる。」
"And if there is a party of you who believes in that with which I have been sent and a party who do not believe, so be patient until Allah judges between us, and He is the Best of judges."
88. かれの民の中の高慢な長老たちは言った。「シュアイブよ，わたしたちは，あなたもあなたと一緒に信仰する者たちも，この町から追放するであろう。さもなければ，わたしたちの宗教に返るべきである。」かれは言った。「仮令わたしたちが（それを）忌み嫌っていてもなのですか。
The chiefs of those who were arrogant among his people said: "We shall certainly drive you out, O Shu'aib, and those who have believed with you from our town, or else you (all) shall return to our religion." He said: "Even though we hate it!
89. アッラーが，わたしたちをあなたがたの宗教から救助された後，もしわたしたちが（それに）戻ったならば，アッラーに対し嘘を捏造したことになってしまいます。またわたしたちの主，アッラーが御好みにならないならば，それに戻ってくることはわたしたちには不可能です。本当に主は，凡ての事物をその御知識に包容なされます。わたしたちはアッラーを信頼申し上げます。主よ，真理によって，わたしたちと人々の間を裁いて下さい。本当にあなたは裁決に最も優れた方であられます。」
"We should have invented a lie against Allah if we returned to your religion, after Allah has rescued us from it. And it is not for us to return to it unless Allah, our Lord, should will. Our Lord comprehends all things in His Knowledge. In Allah (Alone) we put our trust. Our Lord! Judge between us and our people in truth, for You are the Best of those who give judgment."
90. またその民の中の不信者の長老たちは言った。「あなたがたがもしシュアイブに従うならば，きっと失敗者になるでしょう。」
The chiefs of those who disbelieved among his people said (to their people): "If you follow Shu'aib, be sure then you will be the losers!"
91. それで大地震がかれらを襲い，かれらはその家の中に平伏していた。
So the earthquake seized them and they lay (dead), prostrate in their homes.
92. シュアイブを嘘つきと呼んだ者は，そこに住んでなかったようであった。誠にシュアイブを拒否した者たち，かれらは失敗者であった。
Those who belied Shu'aib, became as if they had never dwelt there (in their homes). Those who belied Shu'aib, they were the losers.
93. それでかれはその民を去って言った。「人びとよ，本当にわたしは御告げを確実にあなたがたに伝え，また助言をしたのである。信仰しない人びとのために，どうしてわたしの心を痛めようか。」
Then he (Shu'aib) turned from them and said: "O my people! I have indeed conveyed my Lord's Messages unto you and I have given you good advice. Then how can I sorrow for the disbelieving people's (destruction)."
94. われは一つの町に，預言者を遺わす度に，謙虚になるように，何時も不幸と受難でそこの民を襲った。
And We sent no Prophet unto any town (and they denied him), but We seized its people with suffering from extreme poverty (or loss in wealth) and loss of health and calamities, so that they might humiliate themselves (and repent to Allah).
95. それからわれが災厄に替えて幸運を授け，裕福になると，かれらは言う。「わたしたちの祖先も，確かに災難と幸福にあったのです。」それでわれはかれらが気付かない時に，突然懲罰を加えた。
Then We changed the evil for the good, until they increased in number and in wealth, and said: "Our fathers were touched with evil (loss of health and calamities) and with good (prosperity, etc.)." So We seized them of a sudden while they were unaware.
96. これらの町や村の人びとが信仰して主を畏れたならば，われは天と地の祝福の扉を，かれらのためにきっと開いたであろう。だがかれらは（真理を）偽りであるとしたので，われはかれらの行ったことに対して懲罰を加えた。
And if the people of the towns had believed and had the Taqwa (piety), certainly, We should have opened for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they belied (the Messengers). So We took them (with punishment) for what they used to earn (polytheism and crimes, etc.).
97. 町や村の人びとは，深夜かれらが眠っている間に訪れるわが激怒に対して，安心出来るのであろうか。
Did the people of the towns then feel secure against the coming of Our Punishment by night while they are asleep?
98. また町や村の人びとは，昼間かれらが戯れている間に訪れるわが激怒に対して，安心出来るのであろうか。
Or, did the people of the towns then feel secure against the coming of Our Punishment in the forenoon while they play?
99. かれらはアッラーの計画に対して安心出来るのであろうか。アッラーの計画に対し安心出来るというのは，失敗する（運命にある）者だけである。
Did they then feel secure against the Plan of Allah. None feels secure from the Plan of Allah except the people who are the losers.
100. そこの（減び去った）住民の後，その地を継いだ者たちにとって，すなわちわれがもし望むならば，自らの罪によって滅ぼすことも出来る。またわれはかれらの心に封印をして，聞く耳を持たなくしてしまうことも出来るということは。
Is it not clear to those who inherit the earth in succession from its (previous) possessors, that had We willed, We would have punished them for their sins. And We seal up their hearts so that they hear not?
101. これらは，われがある消息に就いて，あなたに述べた町や村である。使徒たちは，証をかれらに齎した。だがかれらは以前に拒否したので，信じようとはしなかったのである。このようにアッラーは，不信者の心を封じられる。
Those were the towns whose story We relate unto you (O Muhammad SAW). And there came indeed to them their Messengers with clear proofs, but they were not such as to believe in that which they had rejected before. Thus Allah does seal up the hearts of the disbelievers (from each and every kind of religious guidance).
102. われはかれらの大部分の者に，契約を（忠実に）果す者を見いだすことが出来ない。寧ろかれらの大部分が確かに主の掟に背く者であることが分った。
And most of them We found not (true) to their covenant, but most of them We found indeed Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).
103. それからかれらの後に，われはムーサーを，わが印を携えて，フィルアウンとその長老たちに遣わした，だがかれらはそれを拒否した。それで不義を行う者の最後が，どんなものであるかを見なさい。
Then after them We sent Musa (Moses) with Our Signs to Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, but they wrongfully rejected them. So see how was the end of the Mufsidun (mischief-makers, corrupts, etc.).
104. ムーサーは言った。「フィルアウンよ，わたしは，万有の主から遺わされた使徒である。
And Musa (Moses) said: "O Fir'aun (Pharaoh)! I am a Messenger from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
105. わたしは当然のことながらアッラーに就いて真理の外何も言わない。わたしはあなたがたに，主からの明証を齎したのである。だからイスラエルの子孫を，わたしと一緒に行かせなさい。」
"Proper it is for me that I say nothing concerning Allah but the truth. Indeed I have come unto you from your Lord with a clear proof. So let the Children of Israel depart along with me."
106. （フィルアウンは） 言った。「もしあなたが印を齎し，あなたの言葉が真実なら，初めにそれ（証）を現わせ。」
[Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "If you have come with a sign, show it forth, - if you are one of those who tell the truth."
107. そこでかれは自分の杖を投げた。見なさい。それは明らかに蛇であった。
Then [Musa (Moses)] threw his stick and behold! it was a serpent, manifest!
108. またかれはその手を伸ばした。見なさい。それは誰の眼にも白かった。
And he drew out his hand, and behold! it was white (with radiance) for the beholders.
109. フィルアウンの民の長老たちは言った。「これは老練な魔術師だ。
The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer;
110. かれは，この国土からあなたがたを追出そうと望んでいる。さてあなたがたの主張はどうか。」
"He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?"
111. かれらは（フィルアウン）に言った。「かれとその兄弟をしばらく退かせ，召集者を諸都市に遺わして，
They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) -
112. 老練な魔術師をあなたの所に全員呼び出しては。」
"That they bring up to you all well-versed sorcerers."
113. そこで魔術師たちはフィルアウンの許に来て言った。「わたしたちが勝ったならば，きっとわたしたちに報奨があるでしょう。」
And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors."
114. かれは言った。「そうだ。（その上）わたしはあなたがたを，必ずわたしの側近にするであろう。」
He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)."
115. かれらは言った。「ムーサーよ，あなたが投げるのか，それともわたしたちが（先に）投げるのか。」
They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Either you throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?"
116. かれ（ムーサー）は言った。「あなたがたが（先に）投げなさい｣。そこでかれらは投げて人々の目を惑わし，かれらを恐れさせ，大魔術を演出した。
He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic.
117. その時われはムーサーに，「あなたの杖を投げなさい。」と啓示した。すると見よ。それはかれらの瞞ものを（皆）呑み込んでしまった。
And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed.
118. こうして真理が現われ，かれらの行ったことは虚しくなり，
Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect.
119. かれらは打ち負かされ，縮み上がってしまった。
So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced.
120. 魔術師たちは身を投げ出してサジダし，
And the sorcerers fell down prostrate.
121. 言った。「わたしたちは，万有の主を信仰します，
They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
122. ムーサーとハールーンの主を。」
"The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)."
123. フィルアウンは言った。「あなたがたは，わたしが許さないうちにかれを信仰するのか。確かにこれはあなたがたの町で企んだ陰謀で，ここの民を追出そうとするのだ。だがあなたがたはやがて知るであろう。
Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know.
124. わたしはあなたがたの手と足を，必ず互違いに切断し，それから皆を十字架にかけるであろう。」
"Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all."
125. かれらは言った。「本当にわたしたちは，主の許に帰されるのです。
They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord.
126. だがあなたがたは，主の印がわたしたちの許に来て，わたしたちが単にそれを信仰するというだけで，わたしたちに報復されるのですか。主よ，わたしたちに忍耐を与え，ムスリムとして死なせて下さい。」
"And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims."
127. フィルアウンの民の長老たちは言った。「（王様よ）あなたはムーサーとその民が国内を乱し，あなたとあなたの神々を捨てるのを放っておくのですか」かれは言った。「わたしたちはかれらの男児を殺して，女児を生かしておこう。わたしたちは，かれらにたいして権威をもっている。」
The chiefs of Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people said: "Will you leave Musa (Moses) and his people to spread mischief in the land, and to abandon you and your gods?" He said: "We will kill their sons, and let live their women, and we have indeed irresistible power over them."
128. ムーサーはその民に言った。「アッラーの御助けを祈り，耐え忍べ。本当に大地はアッラーの有である。かれは御好みになるしもべたちに，これを継がせられる。最後は（主に対し）義務を果す者に，帰するのである。」
Musa (Moses) said to his people: "Seek help in Allah and be patient. Verily, the earth is Allah's. He gives it as a heritage to whom He will of His slaves, and the (blessed) end is for the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2)."
129. かれは言った。「わたしたちは，あなた（ムーサー）がやって来る以前も，またやって来てから後も迫害を被った。」かれは言った。「これは主が，あなたがたの敵を滅ぼし，あなたがたにこの地を継がせ，どのようにあなたがたが行うかを御覧になるであろう。」
They said: "We (Children of Israel) had suffered troubles before you came to us, and since you have come to us." He said: "It may be that your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you successors on the earth, so that He may see how you act?"
130. われはフィルアウンの一族を，連年飢鐘と，収穫の減少で襲った。恐らくかれらは訓戒を受け入れるであろう。
And indeed We punished the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) with years of drought and shortness of fruits (crops, etc.), that they might remember (take heed).
131. だがかれらは良いことが来れば，「これはわたしたちにとって当然です。」と言い，悪いことが臨めば， ムーサーとかれと共にいる人びとが（齎す）不幸だとする。聞け。かれらの凶運は，アッラーの定められるもの。だがかれらの多くは理解しない。
But whenever good came to them, they said: "Ours is this." And if evil afflicted them, they ascribed it to evil omens connected with Musa (Moses) and those with him. Be informed! Verily, their evil omens are with Allah but most of them know not.
132. かれらは言った。「あなたがどんな印を齎してわたしたちを魅惑しようとしても，わたしたちは決してあなたを信じません。」
They said [to Musa (Moses)]: "Whatever Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) you may bring to us, to work therewith your sorcery on us, we shall never believe in you."
133. そこでわれはかれらに対し，様々な明証として洪水やバッタやシラミ，カエルや血などを送った。だがかれらは高慢な態度を続け，罪深い民であった。
So We sent on them: the flood, the locusts, the lice, the frogs, and the blood: (as a succession of) manifest signs, yet they remained arrogant, and they were of those people who were Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.).
134. 災厄がかれらに下る度に，かれらは言った。「ム－サーよ，わたしたちのためにあなたと約束されたというあなたの主に祈ってくれ。あなたがもしわたしたちからこの災厄を除くならば，わたしたちはきっとあなたを信じ，イスラエルの子孫をあなたと一緒に，きっと帰らせるであろう。」
And when the punishment fell on them they said: "O Musa (Moses)! Invoke your Lord for us because of His Promise to you. If you will remove the punishment from us, we indeed shall believe in you, and we shall let the Children of Israel go with you."
135. だが，定められた期限になって，われがかれらから災厄を除く度に，見なさい。かれらは（その約束を）破ろ。
But when We removed the punishment from them to a fixed term, which they had to reach, behold! They broke their word!
136. それでわれはかれらへの報いとして，かれらを海に溺れさせた。これはかれらがわが啓示を拒否し，それを軽視したためである。
So We took retribution from them. We drowned them in the sea, because they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and were heedless about them.
137. われは無力と思われていた民に，われが祝福した東と西の各地を継がせた。（よく）耐え忍んだために，イスラエルの子孫の上に，あなたの主の善い言葉が全うされた。そしてわれはフィルアウンとその民がうち建てたもの，また築造していたものを破壊した。
And We made the people who were considered weak to inherit the eastern parts of the land and the western parts thereof which We have blessed. And the fair Word of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel, because of their endurance. And We destroyed completely all the great works and buildings which Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his people erected.
138. われはイスラエルの子孫に海を渡らせたが，かれらはある偶像に仕えているある民族のところに来た。かれらは言った。「ムーサーよ，かれらが持っている神々のような一柱の神を，わたしたちに置いてくれ｣。かれは言った。「本当にあなたがたは無知の民である。
And We brought the Children of Israel (with safety) across the sea, and they came upon a people devoted to some of their idols (in worship). They said: "O Musa (Moses)! Make for us an ilahan (a god) as they have aliha (gods)." He said: "Verily, you are a people who know not (the Majesty and Greatness of Allah and what is obligatory upon you, i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone, the One and the Only God of all that exists)."
139. 本当にこれらのものが奉じているものは滅び，またかれらの行うことも無益である。」
[Musa (Moses) added:] "Verily, these people will be destroyed for that which they are engaged in (idols-worship). And all that they are doing is in vain."
140. かれは言った。「わたしはあなたがたのため，アッラーの外に神を求めようか。かれは諸民族の上に，あなたがたを優遇されているではないか。」
He said: "Shall I seek for you an Ilahan (a God) other than Allah, while He has given you superiority over the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns of your time)."
141. われがフィルアウンの一族から，あなたがたを救った時を思いなさい。かれらはあなたがたを悪い刑罰で悩ましていた。かれらはあなたがたの男児を殺し，女児を生かして置いた。本当にその中には，あなたの主からの，重大な試練があったのである。
And (remember) when We rescued you from Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, who were afflicting you with the worst torment, killing your sons and letting your women live. And in that was a great trial from your Lord.
142. またわれはムーサーに（律法を授ける期間として）30夜を約束したが，更に10（夜）を加えた。それで主が定められた期限は40夜となった。ムーサーは，兄弟のハールーンに言った。「あなたはわたしに代って人々を統治しなさい。正しく行動し，悪を行う者の道に従ってはならない。」
And We appointed for Musa (Moses) thirty nights and added (to the period) ten (more), and he completed the term, appointed by his Lord, of forty nights. And Musa (Moses) said to his brother Harun (Aaron): "Replace me among my people, act in the Right Way (by ordering the people to obey Allah and to worship Him Alone) and follow not the way of the Mufsidun (mischief-makers)."
143. ムーサーがわれの約束した時に来て，主がかれに語りかけられた時，かれは申し上げた。「主よ，あなたに拝謁が出来るように，（親しく）わたしに姿を御現わし下さい。」かれは仰せられた。「あなたは決してわれを見ることは出来ない。だがあの山を見よ。もしそれが，相変わらずその所に安定しておれば，そこにあなたはわれを見るであろう。」主がその山に（神の御光を）現わして山を粉みじんにすると，ムーサーは（余りにも恐ろしいので）気絶して倒れた。意識が回復した時かれは言った。「あなたの栄光を讃えます。わたしは悔悟してあなたに帰依し，わたしは信仰する者の先き駆けとなります。」
And when Musa (Moses) came at the time and place appointed by Us, and his Lord spoke to him, he said: "O my Lord! Show me (Yourself), that I may look upon You." Allah said: "You cannot see Me, but look upon the mountain if it stands still in its place then you shall see Me." So when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He made it collapse to dust, and Musa (Moses) fell down unconscious. Then when he recovered his senses he said: "Glory be to You, I turn to You in repentance and I am the first of the believers."
144. かれは仰せられた。「ムーサーよ，本当にわれは，わが啓示と御言葉によってあなたを万人の上に選んだ。だからわれの授けたものをしっかりと身に付け，感謝する者の一人となりなさい。」
(Allah) said: "O Musa (Moses) I have chosen you above men by My Messages, and by My speaking (to you). So hold that which I have given you and be of the grateful."
145. そしてわれは，かれのために一切の事物に関する訓戒と，凡のことの解釈とを，碑の上に記して（言った）。「これをしっかり守れ。またあなたの人びとに，その中の最も優れた（道）を守るよう命じなさい。われは主の掟に背く者の住まいを，やがてあなたがたに示すであろう。
And We wrote for him on the Tablets the lesson to be drawn from all things and the explanation of all things (and said): Hold unto these with firmness, and enjoin your people to take the better therein. I shall show you the home of Al-Fasiqun (the rebellious, disobedient to Allah).
146. また地上で正義を無視し，高慢である者に就いては，われが啓示から背き去らせるであろう。それでもかれらは，凡の印を見てもこれを信じない。また公正な道を見ても，それを（自分の）道としない。そして邪悪な道を見れば，それこそ（真の）道であるとしている。これはかれらがわが印を拒否して，それを軽視しているためである。」
I shall turn away from My Ayat (verses of the Quran) those who behave arrogantly on the earth, without a right, and (even) if they see all the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they will not believe in them. And if they see the way of righteousness (monotheism, piety, and good deeds), they will not adopt it as the Way, but if they see the way of error (polytheism, crimes and evil deeds), they will adopt that way, that is because they have rejected Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and were heedless (to learn a lesson) from them.
147. わが印と，来世における会見を偽りであるとする者の行いは無効である。かれらの行ったこと以外に，何が報いられようか。
Those who deny Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and the Meeting in the Hereafter (Day of Resurrection,), vain are their deeds. Do they expect to be rewarded with anything except what they used to do?
148. ムーサーの民は，かれの（去った）後，自分の装飾品で鳴き声の出る形だけの仔牛を造った。かれらはそれがものも言わず，また道案内も出来ないことが分らないのか。かれらはそれを（神として）とり，不義を行った。
And the people of Musa (Moses) made in his absence, out of their ornaments, the image of a calf (for worship). It had a sound (as if it was mooing). Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor guide them to the way? They took it for worship and they were Zalimun (wrong-doers).
149. かれらは自分たちの過ちが分り，酷く悔やんだ時に言った。「本当に主が慈悲を施こされず，またその御赦しがなかったならば，わたしたちはきっと失敗者の仲間であった。」
And when they regretted and saw that they had gone astray, they (repented and) said: "If our Lord have not mercy upon us and forgive us, we shall certainly be of the losers."
150. ムーサーはその民の許に帰った時，激怒し，悲しんで言った。「あなたがたが，わたしの不在中に行ったことは災いである。あなたがたは主の審判を催促するのか。」かれは板碑を投げ，かれの兄の頭（の髪）を摑んでぐっと引き寄せた。かれ（ハールーン）は言った。「わたしの母の子よ，本当に人びとはわたしを無力だとし，またわたしをほとんど殺さんばかりであった。だからわたし（の手落ち）に対し，敵を喜ばせないでくれ。またわたしを不義の人々と一緒に見なさないでくれ。」
And when Musa (Moses) returned to his people, angry and grieved, he said: "What an evil thing is that which you have done (i.e. worshipping the calf) during my absence. Did you hasten and go ahead as regards the matter of your Lord (you left His worship)?" And he threw down the Tablets and seized his brother by (the hair of) his head and dragged him towards him. Harun (Aaron) said: "O son of my mother! Indeed the people judged me weak and were about to kill me, so make not the enemies rejoice over me, nor put me amongst the people who are Zalimun (wrong-doers)."
151. かれ（ムーサー）は（祈って）言った。「主よ，わたしとわたしの兄を赦し，あなたの慈悲に浴させて下さい。本当にあなたは，慈悲深い者の中でも最も慈悲深い方です。」
Certainly, those who took the calf (for worship), wrath from their Lord and humiliation will come upon them in the life of this world. Thus do We recompense those who invent lies.
152. 本当にこれら，仔牛を（崇拝の対象と）した者たちは主の激怒に触れて，この世の生活でも屈辱を受けるであろう。このようにわれは嘘いつわりを作り出す者に報いる。
Certainly, those who took the calf (for worship), wrath from their Lord and humiliation will come upon them in the life of this world. Thus do We recompense those who invent lies.
153. しかし悪い行いをした者でも，その後に悔悟して信仰する者にたいしては，本当にあなたの主は寛容にして慈悲深くあられる。
But those who committed evil deeds and then repented afterwards and believed, verily, your Lord after (all) that is indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
154. ムーサーは怒りが静まると，板碑を取り上げた。その上には，主を畏れる者への導きと慈悲が記されていた。
And when the anger of Musa (Moses) was appeased, he took up the Tablets, and in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who fear their Lord.
155. それからムーサーは，われ（との会見）の時のために自分の民を70人選んだ。その時大地震がかれらを襲ったので，かれは言った。「主よ，あなたがもし御好みになったならば，（このことの）前に，かれらとわたしを滅ぼされたでしょう。あなたはわたしたちの中の無知な者の行いのために，わたしたちを滅ぼされるのですか，これは，只あなたの試みに過ぎません。あなたは御望みの者を迷わせ，また御望みの者を導かれます。あなたはわたしたちの愛護者であります。それで，わたしたちを赦して，慈悲を施して下さい。あなたは，最も寛容な御方でいらっしゃいます。
And Musa (Moses) chose out of his people seventy (of the best) men for Our appointed time and place of meeting, and when they were seized with a violent earthquake, he said: "O my Lord, if it had been Your Will, You could have destroyed them and me before; would You destroy us for the deeds of the foolish ones among us? It is only Your Trial by which You lead astray whom You will, and keep guided whom You will. You are our Wali (Protector), so forgive us and have Mercy on us, for You are the Best of those who forgive.
156. またわたしたちのために，現世も来世でも，幸福を授けて下さい。本当にわたしたちは，改峻してあなたの許に戻って来ました。」かれは仰せられた。「われは，自分が欲する者に懲罰を加える。またわれの慈悲は，凡てのものにあまねくおよぶ。それ故われは，主を畏れ，喜捨をなし，またわが印を信じる者にそれを授けるであろう。
And ordain for us good in this world, and in the Hereafter. Certainly we have turned unto You." He said: (As to) My Punishment I afflict therewith whom I will and My Mercy embraces all things. That (Mercy) I shall ordain for those who are the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2), and give Zakat; and those who believe in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs and revelations, etc.);
157. かれらは文字を知らない預言者，使徒に追従する者たちである。かれはかれらのもっている（啓典）律法と福音の中に，記され見い出される者である。かれは正義をかれらに命じ，邪悪をかれらに禁じる。また一切の善い（清い）ものを合法〔ハラール〕となし，悪い（汚れた）ものを禁忌〔ハラーム〕とする。またかれらの重荷を除き，かれらの上の束縛を解く。それでかれ（使徒）を信じる者は，かれを尊敬し，かれを助けて，かれと共に下された御光に従う。これらの人びとこそは成功する者たちである。」
Those who follow the Messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write (i.e.Muhammad SAW) whom they find written with them in the Taurat (Torah) (Deut, xviii, 15) and the Injeel (Gospel) (John xiv, 16), - he commands them for Al-Ma'ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam has ordained); and forbids them from Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism of all kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden); he allows them as lawful At-Taiyibat [(i.e. all good and lawful) as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.], and prohibits them as unlawful Al-Khaba'ith (i.e. all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons, foods, etc.), he releases them from their heavy burdens (of Allah's Covenant), and from the fetters (bindings) that were upon them. So those who believe in him (Muhammad SAW), honour him, help him, and follow the light (the Quran) which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be successful.
158. 言ってやるがいい。「人びとよ，わたしはアッラーの使徒として，あなたがた凡てに遣わされた者である。天と地の大権は，かれのものである。かれの外に神はなく，かれは生を授け死を与える御方である。だからアッラーと御言葉を信幸する，文字を知らない使徒を信頼しかれに従え。そうすればきっとあなたがたは導かれるであろう。」
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "O mankind! Verily, I am sent to you all as the Messenger of Allah - to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He); It is He Who gives life and causes death. So believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), the Prophet who can neither read nor write (i.e. Muhammad SAW) who believes in Allah and His Words [(this Quran), the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) and also Allah's Word: "Be!" - and he was, i.e. 'Iesa (Jesus) son of Maryam (Mary), Ç ], and follow him so that you may be guided."
159. ムーサーの民の中で，真理によって（人びとを）導き，またそれによって裁いた一団がある。
And of the people of Musa (Moses) there is a community who lead (the men) with truth and establish justice therewith (i.e. judge men with truth and justice).
160. われはかれらを12の支部族に分けた。ムーサーの民がかれに水を求めた時，われは，「あなたの杖で岩を打て。」と啓示した。するとそこから12の泉が湧き出で，各支部族は自分の水飲み場を知った。われはまた（厚い）雲でかれらの上に影（の傘）を与え，マンナとウズラを下して，「われがあなたがたに授ける善いものを食べなさい。」（と告げた）。（だがかれらは背いた。）かれらはわれを害したのではない。只自分（の魂）を害しただけである。
And We divided them into twelve tribes (as distinct) nations. We directed Musa (Moses) by inspiration, when his people asked him for water, (saying): "Strike the stone with your stick", and there gushed forth out of it twelve springs: each group knew its own place for water. We shaded them with the clouds and sent down upon them Al-Manna and the quails (saying): "Eat of the good things with which We have provided you." They harmed Us not but they used to harm themselves.
161. かれらに向ってこう仰せられた時を思え。「あなたがたはこの町に住み，勝手に自分の好むものを食べなさい。だが，『御許し下さい』と言い，頭を低くして門を入れ。われはあなたがたの罪過を赦す。善いことをする者には，（報奨を）加えるであろう。」
And (remember) when it was said to them: "Dwell in this town (Jerusalem) and eat therefrom wherever you wish, and say, '(O Allah) forgive our sins'; and enter the gate prostrate (bowing with humility). We shall forgive you your wrong-doings. We shall increase (the reward) for the good-doers."
162. しかしかれらの中で不義を行う者は，かれらに説明されたものを外の語に言い替え，不義を繰り返したので，われは天から懲罰を下した。
But those among them who did wrong changed the word that had been told to them. So We sent on them a torment from heaven in return for their wrong-doings.
163. 海岸の町（の人びと）に就いて，かれらに問え。かれらが安息日（の禁）を破った時のことを，魚群はかれらの安息日に水面に現われやって来ていた。だがかれらが安息日の禁を守らなかった時は，それらはやって来なくなったではないか。このようにわれはかれらを試みた。かれらが主の掟に背いていたためである。
And ask them (O Muhammad SAW) about the town that was by the sea, when they transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath (i.e. Saturday): when their fish came to them openly on the Sabbath day, and did not come to them on the day they had no Sabbath. Thus We made a trial of them for they used to rebel (see the Quran: V.4:154).
164. かれらの中の一団がこう言った時（を思え）。「何故あなたがたは，アッラーが絶滅され，また激しい懲罰をしようとされる民に訓戒するのか。」かれら（布教者）は言った。「あなたがたの主に，罪の御許しを願うためである。そうすればかれらは主を畏れるであろう。」
And when a community among them said: "Why do you preach to a people whom Allah is about to destroy or to punish with a severe torment?" (The preachers) said: "In order to be free from guilt before your Lord (Allah), and perhaps they may fear Allah."
165. それでかれらが与えられている訓戒を無視した時，われは，悪を避けた者を救い，不義を行う者には恥ずべき懲罰を加えた。（それは）かれらが主の掟に背いていたためである。
So when they forgot the remindings that had been given to them, We rescued those who forbade evil, but We seized those who did wrong with a severe torment because they used to rebel (disobey Allah).
166. それでかれらが倣慢に禁じられていることを犯した時，われはかれらに言った。「あなたがたは猿になれ。軽蔑され，嫌われてしまえ。」
So when they exceeded the limits of what they were prohibited, We said to them: "Be you monkeys, despised and rejected." (It is a severe warning to the mankind that they should not disobey what Allah commands them to do, and be far away from what He prohibits them).
167. あなたがたの主が，審判の日までかれら（ユダヤの民）に対し，厳しい懲罰を負わせる者を，遣わされ，宣告された時を思え。本当に主は懲罰に迅速で，またかれは本当に寛容にして慈悲深くあられる。
And (remember) when your Lord declared that He would certainly keep on sending against them (i.e. the Jews), till the Day of Resurrection, those who would afflict them with a humiliating torment. Verily, your Lord is Quick in Retribution (for the disobedient, wicked) and certainly He is OftForgiving, Most Merciful (for the obedient and those who beg Allah's Forgiveness).
168. われはかれらを，地上で多数の集団に分散した。そのある者は正しい人物であるが，ある者はそうではない。われは緊栄と逆境でかれらを試みた。恐らくかれらは，（われに）戻ってくるであろう。
And We have broken them (i.e. the Jews) up into various separate groups on the earth, some of them are righteous and some are away from that. And We tried them with good (blessings) and evil (calamities) in order that they might turn (to Allah's Obedience).
169. それから（不良の）子孫が，かれらの後を継いで啓典を継承したが，かれらは現世の虚しい物を受けとって、「（どんなことでも）必ずわたしたちを御赦しになろう」と言っていた。そしてもし同じような賜り物がかれらに来れば，（また）それを受け入れる。アッラーに関し真理の外，語ってはならないことは，（あなたがたの）啓典での約束ではなかったのか。しかもかれらは，その中にあることを学んでいたではないか。主を畏れる者にとっては，来世の住まいこそ最も優れている。あなたがたは理解しないのか。
Then after them succeeded an (evil) generation, which inherited the Book, but they chose (for themselves) the goods of this low life (evil pleasures of this world) saying (as an excuse): "(Everything) will be forgiven to us." And if (again) the offer of the like (evil pleasures of this world) came their way, they would (again) seize them (would commit those sins). Was not the covenant of the Book taken from them that they would not say about Allah anything but the truth? And they have studied what is in it (the Book). And the home of the Hereafter is better for those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2). Do not you then understand?
170. 啓典によって（自分の生活を）堅持し，礼拝の務めを守る者，本当にわれは，このような身を修める者への報奨を決して虚しくしない。
And as to those who hold fast to the Book (i.e. act on its teachings) and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), certainly, We shall never waste the reward of those who do righteous deeds.
171. われがかれらの上で天蓋のように山を揺り動かし，かれらがそれが自分たちの上に落ちてくると考えた時を思え。（その時われは言った。）「われがあなたがたに授けたもの（啓典）を堅く守り，その中にあることを銘記せよ。そうすればあなたがたは，主を畏れるであろう。」
And (remember) when We raised the mountain over them as if it had been a canopy, and they thought that it was going to fall on them. (We said): "Hold firmly to what We have given you [i.e. the Taurat (Torah)], and remember that which is therein (act on its commandments), so that you may fear Allah and obey Him."
172. あなたがたの主が，アーダムの子孫の腰からかれらの子孫を取り出され，かれらを自らの証人となされた時を思え。（その時かれは仰せられた。）「われは，あなたがたの主ではないか。」かれらは申し上げた。「はい，わたしたちは証言いたします。」これは復活の日にあなたがたに，「わたしたちは，このことを本当に注意しませんでした。」と言わせないためである。
And (remember) when your Lord brought forth from the Children of Adam, from their loins, their seed (or from Adam's loin his offspring) and made them testify as to themselves (saying): "Am I not your Lord?" They said: "Yes! We testify," lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection: "Verily, we have been unaware of this."
173. 「また，先に神々を崇拝したのはわたしたちの祖先で，わたしたちはその後の子孫です。あなたは，虚偽に従う者が行ったことのためにわたしたちを滅ぼされますか。」と言わせないためである。
Or lest you should say: "It was only our fathers afortime who took others as partners in worship along with Allah, and we were (merely their) descendants after them; will You then destroy us because of the deeds of men who practised Al-Batil (i.e. polytheism and committing crimes and sins, invoking and worshipping others besides Allah)?" (Tafsir At-Tabari).
174. このようにわれは，印を詳しく述べる。恐らくかれらは，（われに）戻ってくるであろう。
Thus do We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail, so that they may turn (unto the truth).
175. （ムハンマドよ）われが下した印を授かりながら，それを脱ぎ捨て，それで悪魔が憑いて，邪道に導く者の仲間となった者の話をかれらに告げなさい。
And recite (O Muhammad SAW) to them the story of him to whom We gave Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), but he threw them away, so Shaitan (Satan) followed him up, and he became of those who went astray.
176. もしそれがわが意志であったならば，われはそれ（印）によってかれを引きたてたであろう。 だがかれは地上の事に執着して，自分の虚しい私欲に従った。それでかれを譬えてみれば犬のようなもので，もしあなたがそれを叱り付けても，舌を垂れている。また放って置いても，舌を垂れている。これはわが印を信しない者の比喩である。だからこの（昔の人びとの）物語を告げなさい。恐らくかれらは反省するであろう。
And had We willed, We would surely have elevated him therewith but he clung to the earth and followed his own vain desire. So his description is the description of a dog: if you drive him away, he lolls his tongue out, or if you leave him alone, he (still) lolls his tongue out. Such is the description of the people who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). So relate the stories, perhaps they may reflect.
177. 悪いのは（この）例のように，わが印を偽りであるとし，自らの魂を損っている者たちである。
Evil is the likeness of the people who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses and signs, etc.), and used to wrong their ownselves.
178. アッラーが導かれる者は，正しい道の上にあり，迷わせられる者は，等しく失敗者である。
Whomsoever Allah guides, he is the guided one, and whomsoever He sends astray, those! They are the losers.
179. われは地獄のために，ジンと人間の多くを創った。かれらは心を持つがそれで悟らず，目はあるがそれで見ず，また耳はあるがそれで聞かない。かれらは家畜のようである。いやそれよりも迷っている。かれらは（警告を）軽視する者である。
And surely, We have created many of the jinns and mankind for Hell. They have hearts wherewith they understand not, they have eyes wherewith they see not, and they have ears wherewith they hear not (the truth). They are like cattle, nay even more astray; those! They are the heedless ones.
180. 最も美しい凡ての御名はアッラーに属する。それでこれら（の御名）で，かれを呼びなさい。かれの御名を冒瀆するものは放っておきなさい。かれらはその行ったことにより報いられるであろう。
And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allah, so call on Him by them, and leave the company of those who belie or deny (or utter impious speech against) His Names. They will be requited for what they used to do.
181. またわれが創った者の中には，真理によって（人を）導き，またそれに基づき公正に行う一団がある。
And of those whom We have created, there is a community who guides (others) with the truth, and establishes justice therewith.
182. わが印を拒否する者は，かれらの気付かないうちに，少しずつ（破滅に）落し入れられるであろう。
Those who reject Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), We shall gradually seize them with punishment in ways they perceive not.
183. かれらには猶子が与えられる。だがわが計画は，強（く免れられな）いのである。
And I respite them; certainly My Plan is strong.
184. かれらは反省しないのか。かれらの仲間は気が狂ったのではない。かれは明らかに，一人の警告者に外ならない。
Do they not reflect? There is no madness in their companion (Muhammad SAW). He is but a plain warner.
185. かれらは天と地の大権に就いて観察し，またアッラーが創られた凡ての事物に就いて考察しないのか。またかれらに定められた時が，近くに迫っていると考えないのか。かれらはこの後に，どんな教説を信じようとするのか。
Do they not look in the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all things that Allah has created, and that it may be that the end of their lives is near. In what message after this will they then believe?
186. アッラーが迷わせられた者に導きはない。かれは，かれらの倣慢さ故に，当てもなく迷うに任せられる。
Whomsoever Allah sends astray, none can guide him; and He lets them wander blindly in their transgressions.
187. かれらは（最後の審判の）時に就いて，何時それがやって来るのかとあなたに問うであろう。言ってやるがいい。「それを知る方は，只わたしの主だけである。その時（最後の審判）を知らせて下さるのはかれの外にはない。それ（時）は，天でも地でも重い（重大事となる）。全く突然あなたがたにやって来る。」かれらはあなたが，それに就いて熟知しているかのように尋ねるであろう。言ってやるがいい。「それを知る方は，唯アッラーだけである。」だが人びとの多くは分からない。
They ask you about the Hour (Day of Resurrection): "When will be its appointed time?" Say: "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord (Alone). None can reveal its time but He. Heavy is its burden through the heavens and the earth. It shall not come upon you except all of a sudden." They ask you as if you have a good knowledge of it. Say: "The knowledge thereof is with Allah (Alone) but most of mankind know not."
188. 言ってやるがいい。「わたしはアッラーが御好みにならない限り，自分自身のための利害すら自由に出来ない。わたしがもし幽玄界を知っているならば，わたしは善いことを増し，また災厄に会わなかったであろう。わたしは只の一人の警告者で，信仰する者への吉報を知らせる一人の伝達者に過ぎない。
Say (O Muhammad SAW): "I possess no power of benefit or hurt to myself except as Allah wills. If I had the knowledge of the Ghaib (unseen), I should have secured for myself an abundance of wealth, and no evil should have touched me. I am but a warner, and a bringer of glad tidings unto people who believe."
189. かれこそは，一個の魂（アーダム）からあなたがたを創り，互いに慰安を得るため，その妻を創られた御方であられる。かれがかの女と交わると，かの女は体内に軽い荷を負ったがそれでもかの女は（安易に）往来していた。そのうち重さが加わるようになると，かれらは両人の主，アッラーに祈って（言う）。「もしあなたが良い子をわたしたちに御授けになれば，わたしたちはきっと感謝を捧げます。」
It is He Who has created you from a single person (Adam), and (then) He has created from him his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], in order that he might enjoy the pleasure of living with her. When he had sexual relation with her, she became pregnant and she carried it about lightly. Then when it became heavy, they both invoked Allah, their Lord (saying): "If You give us a Salih (good in every aspect) child, we shall indeed be among the grateful."
190. だがかれが両人に良い（子）を御授けになれば，かれらに授けられたことに対して，かれに同位の者を立てる。だがアッラーは，かれらが立てたものの上に高くおられる。
But when He gave them a Salih (good in every aspect) child, they ascribed partners to Him (Allah) in that which He has given to them. High be Allah, Exalted above all that they ascribe as partners to Him. (Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol.9, Page 148).
191. かれらは何も創れない。またかれら自身が造ったものを，崇拝するのか。
Do they attribute as partners to Allah those who created nothing but they themselves are created?
192. それらはかれらを助けられず，自分自身（さえ）も助けられない。
No help can they give them, nor can they help themselves.
193. 仮令あなたがたが導きのため，それらに呼びかけても，あなたに従わないであろう。あなたかたがそれらに呼びかけてもまた黙っていても，あなたがたにとっては同じことである。
And if you call them to guidance, they follow you not. It is the same for you whether you call them or you keep silent.
194. 本当にアッラーを差し置いて，あなたがたが祈るものは，あなたがたと同じようにかれのしもベである。もしあなたがたが真実なら，それらを呼んであなたがたの祈りに答えさせなさい。」
Verily, those whom you call upon besides Allah are slaves like you. So call upon them and let them answer you if you are truthful.
195. それらは歩く足があるのか。持つ手があるのか。また見る目があるのか。聞く耳があるのか。言ってやるがいい。「あなたがたは（かれに配する）神々を呼ベ。直ぐわたしに向かって策謀してみよ。躊躇することはない。
Have they feet wherewith they walk? Or have they hands wherewith they hold? Or have they eyes wherewith they see? Or have they ears wherewith they hear? Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Call your (so-called) partners (of Allah) and then plot against me, and give me no respite!
196. 本当にアッラーはわたしの愛護者であり，啓典を啓示された方である。かれは正義の徒を愛護なされる。
"Verily, my Wali (Protector, Supporter, and Helper, etc.) is Allah Who has revealed the Book (the Quran), and He protects (supports and helps) the righteous.
197. だがあなたがたがかれを差し置いて祈るものは，あなたがたを助けることも，自分自身（さえ）も助けることは出来ない。」
"And those whom you call upon besides Him (Allah) cannot help you nor can they help themselves."
198. もしあなたがかれら（クライシュ族）を正道に招いても，かれらは聞かない。あなたはかれらが，あなたを見守っているのを見よう。だがかれらは見てはいないのである。
And if you call them to guidance, they hear not and you will see them looking at you, yet they see not.
199. （ムハンマドよ）寛容を守り，道理にかなったことを勧め，無知の者から遠ざかれ。
Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the foolish (i.e. don't punish them).
200. また悪魔からの中傷があなたを悩ました時は，アッラーの加護を求めなさい。本当にかれは全聴にして全知であられる。
And if an evil whisper comes to you from Shaitan (Satan) then seek refuge with Allah. Verily, He is All-Hearer, All-Knower.
201. 本当に主を畏れる者は，悪魔がかれらを悩ますとき，（アッラーを）念ずればたちどころに（真理に）眼が開くだろう。
Verily, those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V.2:2), when an evil thought comes to them from Shaitan (Satan), they remember (Allah), and (indeed) they then see (aright).
202. だがかれら（悪魔）の兄弟たちは，もっと深くかれらを誤りに引き込もうとして，決して手を緩めない。
But (as for) their brothers (the devils) they (i.e. the devils) plunge them deeper into error, and they never stop short.
203. あなたが一つの印をもかれらに齎さなかった時，かれらは言う。「あなたは何故それを（自分で）選ばないのか。」言ってやるがいい。「わたしは，只主からわたしに啓示されることに従うだけです。」それは，あなたがたへの主からの啓蒙であり，また信仰する者への導きであり，慈悲である。」
And if you do not bring them a miracle [according to their (i.e. Quraish-pagans') proposal], they say: "Why have you not brought it?" Say: "I but follow what is revealed to me from my Lord. This (the Quran) is nothing but evidences from your Lord, and a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe."
204. それでクルアーンが読誦される時は，それを謹しんで聴き，また静粛にしなさい。恐らくあなたがたは慈悲を受けるであろう。
So, when the Quran is recited, listen to it, and be silent that you may receive mercy. [i.e. during the compulsory congregational prayers when the Imam (of a mosque) is leading the prayer (except Surat Al-Fatiha), and also when he is delivering the Friday-prayer Khutbah]. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol.9, Pages 162-4]
205. またあなたがは朝夕，魂を込めて謙虚に，恐れ謹んで，言葉は大声でなく，あなたの主を唱念しなさい。おろそかな者の仲間となってはならない。
And remember your Lord by your tongue and within yourself, humbly and with fear without loudness in words in the mornings, and in the afternoons and be not of those who are neglectful.
206. 本当にあなたの主の側近にいる者は，かれを崇めるのに慢心することなく，かれの栄光を讃えて唱念し，かれにサジダする。〔サジダ〕
Surely, those who are with your Lord (angels) are never too proud to perform acts of worship to Him, but they glorify His Praise and prostrate before Him.
