慈悲あまねく慈愛深きアッラーの御名において。

 Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists),

 

2. 一凝血から，人間を創られた。」

 

 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood).

 

3. 読め，「あなたの主は，最高の尊貴であられ，

 

 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous,

4. 筆によって（書くことを）教えられた御方。

 

 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch) <><>],

 

5. 人間に未知なることを教えられた御方である。」

 

 Has taught man that which he knew not.

6. いや，人間は本当に法外で，

 

 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.).

 

7. 自分で何も足りないところはないと考えている。

 

 Because he considers himself self-sufficient.

 

8. 本当にあなたの主に（凡てのものは）帰されるのである。

 

 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return.

9. あなたは，阻止する者を見たか，

 

 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abû Jahl) who prevents,

 

10. 一人のしもべ（ムハンマド）が，礼拝を捧げる時に。

 

 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays?

 

11. あなたは，かれ（阻止する者）が，（正しい道）に導かれていると思うのか。

 

 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allâh)?

 

12. 敬神を勧めているか，

 

 Or enjoins piety?

13. （真理を）嘘であるとして背を向けたと思うのか。

 

 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abû Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Qur'ân), and turns away?

 

14. かれは，アッラーが見ておられることを知らないのか。

 

 Knows he not that Allâh does see (what he does)?

 

15. 断じてそうではない。もしかれが止ないならば，われは前髪でかれを捕えるであろう，

 

 Nay! If he (Abû Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock,

 

16. 嘘付きで，罪深い前髪を。

 

 A lying, sinful forelock!

 

17. そしてかれの（救助のために）一味を召集させなさい。

 

 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers),

18. われは看守（の天使）を召集するであろう。

 

 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

19. 断じてそうあるべきではない。あなたはかれに従ってはならない。一途にサジダして（主に）近付け。〔サジダ〕

 

Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abû Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allâh!
